Our Spirit
The spirit behind Heidi's Montessori Preschool and Daycare is the "true cultivation of the human individual" from the very beginning. We believe in fostering independence and self-reliance in children by providing a classroom especially designed to explore, learn, discover and grow. The processes of social skills, self-composure and day-to-day activities of practical life come naturally to your child in a home-like setting.
Some examples of the daily activities and the specific skills learned are listed below:
Practical Life: Everyday activities (setting the table, picking up toys, dressing for outdoors, brushing teeth, etc.), which teach personal care and care of the environment along with grace and courtesy. These develop independence, order, concentration and the eye-hand coordination and control for later exercises such as drawing and writing.
Sensorial Activities: These activities (pouring exercises, color cards, water/sand table) refine the senses. The child develops the ability to make judgments, to compare and discriminate on the basis of size, shape, weight, texture, color and temperature.
Math Readiness: Begins with activities such as sorting, sequencing and categorizing, which are a natural part of playtime games.
Language: Begins with storytelling, self-expression and vocabulary building (language cards, books, movable alphabet in three languages: English, Spanish and German).
Nature: Simple activities (planting flower bulbs, collecting leaves, smelling leaves and flowers, filling bird and squirrel houses) heighten a child's awareness and develop gentleness toward life.
Arts, Crafts, Yoga, Music and Movement: Bring the joy of creation and self-expression while refining body, hand and finger coordination.
